I usually tend to read between the lines when it comes to controversy. I understand that there is a universal truth to every major situation involving money, power, and respect. That is that large amounts of money tend to come hand in hand with multiple agendas. I think that it would be naive to think that MLB did not see an opportunity to see great growth after the strike in 1993, turning the other cheek in regards to accepting spectacular numbers and performance at whatever costs was in the best interest of the game and the bank accounts of those involved, players, administration, etc. Or was it?
